A Cameroonian man has been been arrested in the slaying of his roommate whose body was discovered Monday in the northeast Dallas apartment they shared.
Bobby Fongu Ngendung, 23, faces a murder charge in the death of Michael Mitchel, who was found dead in Ngendung’s bedroom, police said Tuesday.
Two other roommates arrived at the apartment in the 5600 block of SMU Boulevard, near Greenville Avenue, early Monday and found Ngendung acting worried and erratic, according to an arrest affidavit.
When they asked where Mitchel was, Ngendung responded with “Who’s Michael?” Mitchel had been living in the apartment since late last year, the affidavit states.
While pacing the apartment, Ngendung told the roommates that he had messed up, according to police records. “I put my hands on … I put my hands on … ” he told them without finishing the sentence, the affidavit states. He then mentioned the closet and referenced the color red.
A roommate told police that after turning off the lights and acting as if he was asleep, he saw Ngendung open the bedroom door and drag something out. When asked what it was, Ngendung said nothing and pulled it back into his room, according to the affidavit.
The roommates drove Ngendung to a nearby hospital once they had calmed him down, police said. There, they asked a security guard to notify 911 that there may be a body inside their apartment.
They returned to the apartment, entered with Dallas-Fire Rescue and discovered Mitchel’s body in Ngendung’s bedroom, wrapped in a white blanket and with ligature marks on his neck, according to police records.
Ngendung was arrested at the hospital and later booked into Dallas County Jail. His bail has been set at $200,000. He does not appear to have a prior criminal history in Dallas County.
